A Brief History
The South Canterbury Four Wheel Drive Club, based in Timaru, was
formed in 1976 and presently has approximately 70 members . The
purpose of the club is to promote family four wheel driving in
South Canterbury in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.
As well as trips, the Club organizers Training Days on an annual
basis were members can try a range of 4wd situations under
guidance of more experienced members.The club magazine is published monthly and mailed to all
financial members. The magazine has details of coming club
activities, Reports on club trips, meeting minutes, sheriffs
reports and general information.
Club trips range from one day local to weekend trips to areas
such as Central Otago, North Canterbury and The West Coast.
Weekend trips sometimes include camping out.
Minimum Vehicle Requirements
- Approved Tow hooks*
- Recovery strop
- D shackle
- shovel or spade
- First aid Kit
- Fire extinguisher
- Current W.O.F.
- Insurance (Third party minimum requirement)
- Appropriate off road tyres
- Basic tool kit
- Spark arrestor
*Tow Hooks
Tow Hooks All vehicles must have heavy duty forged steel tow
hooks fitted front and rear or manufactures rated hooks.
They should have a certified rating of 10,000 lb. Mount to
the chassis with at least two 12 mm, grade 8.8 high tensile
bolts and nuts and rein- forcing backing plates. Any

Meetings
The club holds bi-monthly meetings on the first Monday of each
even numbered month. The venue is the Richard Pearce Resturant
Meetings Room, LeCren Street, Timaru at 7.30pm.
